After figuring out we weren't going to be able to move to Uruguay, post-South America depression was inevitable. No new adventure, no leaving all we knew for new and different people, places, and experiences hit like a rock for awhile. We were disappointed; I thought Raquel was going to cry knowing we were not going to be there; and everyone was stunned. But not to let moss grow under our feet, we made a big decision.
SInce leaving and living by the beach and having a South American life was no longer possible in our scheme, we would still have an adventure. Only it would be in Prescott. Life changes don't have to take you around the world (although I think to really change you have to get away from everyone who thinks they know all about you, their expectations, and your normal day to day life...then you can decide who and what you want to be from your new day one). So in lieu of feeling badly about it, finding remorse and blame and bitterness, we made a different decision. We decided to buy a house here in Prescott and make it what we wanted in our lives.
TO that end, after a quick trip to visit some friends in CA for an amazing retirement party and surprise, we came home, and signed papers on a new house. Well, new to us, but actually an old house that we have nicknamed The Money Pit. Haven't fallen through any floors yet (for those of you who have seen the movie), but OMG the things we have found that need correcting!
So in the next weeks you will see the ups and downs, highs and lows, demo and rebuilding of the new place. It is in the boulders and pines of NW Prescott, off Iron Springs Rd one block behind a great Italian restaurant...LaBruzza's. It is less than a mile to Starbucks,Big Lots, Tuesday Morning, JoAnn Fabrics, and yes I'm sorry to say WalMart. It is about the same distance to work, and I am praying this area is a bit warmer than in the pines here in White Spar....another winter of 2 feet of snow and ice for weeks on end will have this place on the real estate market and me looking again for warmer climes!!
SO come along with us on the newest phase of our adventure. It will be frustrating, funny, and maybe give you a glimmer into the life and times of those crazy Carlsons...you never know what they'll be doing next.
