Hot and sticky….REALLY hot and sticky, and it makes everyone sweaty and miserable. The monsoons are trying to come through, but so far just sprinkles and threats and lots of high temps (98) and humidity.
I went to the house after work today. Took Roy and Guayo back to the RV to rest/sleep in the cool of the AC. It’s been very stressful for Roy with all the work, workers, no water/cooler at the new place and it being SO hot.
Progress is being made. Today the wing wall was put up in the kitchen, along with the rest of the bead board on the new walls in the kitchen, that were stabilized. The front hall linen closet had bi-fold doors put on and the bottom was enclosed with a new grill and filter system that will allow more air flow to the heater. The front bathroom has new sub floor where the vanity was, and the alcove for the new vanity has been done with bead board. Tomorrow we are going to look for a new bathroom light, a living room ceiling light, a light for the utility/spare bedroom, and a light for over the window in the kitchen. Roy found track lighting for the kitchen and got 2. Need to go back and pick out one more.
The big thing today is the sheet rock was delivered (and now I’m praying the rains don’t come or if they do the plastic we’ve covered it with holds out) and tomorrow the ceilings start getting sheet rocked. Can’t do the dining room or kitchen tomorrow…Johnny will be back to finish putting in the ceiling lights for them and then the sheet rock can go up. Once the lights are installed in the utility room, and the ceilings have been up, taped and are dry in the bedroom, kitchen and dining room, then they can be textured. Once textured and dried, then the Jane and Roy work begins…spackling over all nail/brad holes and painting painting painting! Once all is painted, then the floors go in. Once they’re in, then Kenny is back to do trim work…baseboards, window and door trims, and ceiling molding. The check list is long, but actually shorter now, and I can see that it won’t take too long to get all this done. There will be other things to be done at a later date, as with all homes, but this will get us in the door. Once the floors are in, then the sinks and vanities can be hooked up to the plumbing, furniture moved in, and then US moved in! Next after move in? Fence put in for Guayo.
Jeff has replumbed the entire hot water heater, building a manifold with new copper to replace the unbelievable spider web of tubing that was in there. Seems every time they added a room or water, they added a new pipe and just strung it in. Also, there was a huge water pipe in front of the water heat and the furnace, allowing almost no access to either. This has been removed and put to the side. Of course it scared me to death when he pressured it all back up (after sweating on 32 joints of copper) and one of the joints blew with a huge POP. I thought he’d been killed. But no harm…and some actual laugher. Seems in doing all of the joints, he just missed one. SO when he pressured it up, it popped loose. No problem for Super Jeff…he just soldered it in and finished up. Tomorrow the blow off pipe completes the system…with brand new catch tray to keep any leaks from rotting out the floor as had happened before. Jeff….he’s my hero!
Actually our lives are full of heroes…and great friends who are all talented, strong, helpful, experienced, creative, intelligent, and fabulous in every way. There is no way we would be able to do all this work without them, and there’s no way we can thank them enough for their help and work. It’s so inspiring and uplifting. Just when you think the world is filled with crap, friends come out of the woodwork to show you how wonderful your life really is. We owe so many so much, we’ll never be able to pay them back, but will try to do special things whenever possible---plus pass it forward and help others along our life times also. That’s what life is all about…people helping people to make their lives more than it could be.
